Monte Carlo Project

Information about my 1970 Monte Carlo

This section will be a little less polished than the others, as I see myself posting details about the car as I discover them. At the very best, I’ll make every attempt to keep the information separated into categories and organized in a clear and consistent manner.

Specifications & Numbers

Purchase and Ownership History

The ownership trail begins in 1986, with the owners at that time being Ronald and Nancy Mittler from Miramar, Florida. The title I currently hold in my hands is listed as a duplicate and was issued on 08/14/1986 to Mr. and Mrs. Mittler. The odometer statement on this title is listed to be 96,700 miles. I do not have any paperwork prior to this year, but will update this list if it becomes available.

  1. Sold to Toyota of Hollywood (Dealer license # is 7VF0381) on 02/06/1987, odometer reading at this time is 96,816, new owner resides in Hollywood, Florida.
  2. Sold to Howard Motors, Inc. (Dealer license # is 6VI-5910) on 02/06/1987, odometer reading at this time is 96,816, new owner resides in Ojus, Florida.
    • While in the possession of Howard Motors, Inc., a document is created and signed by a Notary Public, called “Affidavit of Miles” on 03/30/1987; (this must have been forward-dated, because the next sale takes place on 03/25/1987). It states that an employee of Howard Motors, named Ken Jenks (spelling of the last name is unclear, so its merely a guess), “Certifies to the best of his knowledge that the mileage is unknown”.
    • It is my understanding that the odometer stopped working while Mr. and Mrs. Mittler owned the car, or shortly thereafter.
  3. Sold to Vigeant Auto Sales, Inc. (No dealer license provided) on 03/25/1987, odometer reading at this time is 96,816, no address provided for new owner.
  4. In this general time frame the paperwork I have leads me to believe that Vigeant Auto Sales, Inc. sold the car to a Mr. George Filippene, but there is no paperwork saying so. For now, and unless any new information surfaces, we’ll consider this to be fact.
  5. Sold to my uncle, John Congley, on 06/16/1987, odometer reading an inaccurate amount of 96,816, new owner living in Beverly, Massachusetts. It is also documented in the original purchase agreement that my uncle paid $3,500.00 for the car, a sum I would guess is a bit high considering the circumstances and time.
  6. On 07/25/2004, my uncle, John Congley, was accidentally killed from electric shock while helping his friend work on the outside of a home. After two years of probate court, John’s estate was turned over to my grandfather, Vincent Congley, and he became the owner of the car.
  7. Sold to me, Marc Amos, on 12/30/2006, odometer reading an inaccurate amount of 96,816, new owner living in Salem, Massachusetts. The purchase price was $1.00.
    • While a purchase agreement has been made, I haven’t yet done any of the title paperwork necessary to make the car officially mine, and I’m dreading the conversations I’ll have with the employees at the local DMV.

More coming soon...

Everything about this car, and everything I do with/for/to it is in memory of: Randolph Amos (my father by birth), John Congley (my uncle), and Barbara Congley (my grandmother).
